A guide to stained concrete floors and patios
What concrete staining does
Stains react with or soak into the concrete to create translucent, variegated color — more like natural stone or leather than paint. Because it becomes part of the surface, stain won't peel. It's the most economical way to transform sound concrete and a core part of our concrete resurfacing toolkit.
Acid stains vs. water-based stains
Acid (reactive) stains
Earthy browns, tans and greens with rich, marbled variation. Every floor is unique.
Water-based stains
A wider color range, more consistent results and lower odor — good for interiors and modern looks.
Indoors and out
Interior staining suits basements, lofts and living spaces. It can pair with a metallic epoxy look for a showpiece. Outdoors, stain refreshes patios and porches that don't need a full overlay — or it adds color to a stamped patio overlay.
Will staining work on my concrete?
Stain shows what's underneath, including patches and heavy stains. Very blotchy or damaged slabs usually get a microtopping first. We'll recommend the right approach at your estimate — see resurfacing vs. replacement for more on evaluating a slab, and the resurfacing cost guide for budgeting.
Real jobs. Real finish.

Can I stain my existing concrete floor?+
Usually yes. Most sound interior and exterior slabs are excellent candidates for a decorative stain treatment.
Will the color be even?+
Stained concrete is prized for its natural variation — that's what makes it look organic rather than painted. We control the palette and pattern to your taste.
How do I maintain a stained floor?+
Regular sweeping and occasional damp mopping is all it takes. A light re-seal every few years keeps it fresh.
Do you stain patios and outdoor slabs?+
Yes — with the right stain and UV-stable sealer, stained concrete is a beautiful choice for outdoor living areas.
Does stained concrete need sealing?+
Yes. A sealer protects the color from UV, water and wear. We include it on every project.
Can you stain old concrete?+
Often, yes, after thorough cleaning. Heavily patched or damaged slabs may need a microtopping first.
Is stained concrete slippery?+
We can add slip-resistant grit to the sealer for exterior and wet areas.
